Zacharias Night: Feb 1, 6:30, In the classroom

In conjunction with the February Board meeting, the school is offering "Parent Night with Zacharias Center" on this Wednesday, February 1 starting at 6:30pm at the preschool.  This is an informative session directed at parents only, to encourage and promote discussions about "stranger danger" with your children. This is not limited to parents of the 4/5 students.  All parents are encouraged to attend.

The Zacharias Center will also be coming to the 4/5 classrooms this month.  Their time with the students are described as "an informative, upbeat, personal safety program that is designed to emphasize assertiveness skills, not fear."  Material is completely age-appropriate and presented in a fun, non-threatening manner.  The program teaches children to recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations by being assertive and relying on peer support and a network of trusted adults.  These strategies significantly reduce children's vulnerability to verbal, physical, and sexual assault.

This is a difficult topic for many people to discuss; however, education and information are essential tools to protecting our children.  Zacharias Center presentations have been conducted at GCNS for many years, with very positive feedback.
